Fire Ban Information

The Township of North Frontenac Open Air By-law #53-19 as amended, defines a Fire Ban as follows:

“Fire Ban” means the restriction of all open air burning by the Chief Fire Official.

During a Fire Ban, you cannot have an outdoor open air fire.  However, you may use the following in accordance with the Township’s Open Air Burn By-Law #53-19:

Gas or Fuel Stove

Gas or Fuel Stove” means a commercially manufactured portable appliance used for cooking or warmth. The appliance uses a combustible liquid or gas fuel, which can be extinguished by the closing of a fuel control valve or by closing the stove.

  1. The stove is designed to use a liquid or a gas as fuel.
  2. A liquid or gas is used as the fuel.
  3. The conditions are safe and suitable for a fire.
  4. There are adequate adults competent to control the fire in attendance from start to extinguishment.
  5. The rules and regulations of the By-Law are followed.
  6. There is adequate personnel, equipment, and water to control and extinguish the fire.
  7. The fire is on bare mineral soil or rock and is at least 3 metres (9.75 ft.) from any flammable material.
  8. The flame in the stove can be extinguished by closing a fuel control valve or by closing the stove.

Charcoal

Charcoal” means commercially produced charcoal used for cooking or warmth.

  1. The installation is designed to be used for cooking or warmth.
  2. The installation is commercially available and designed to use commercially produced charcoal as fuel.
  3. The installation is at least 2 metres from any flammable material and the ashes and coals produced are completely extinguished and safely disposed of.

Your help in preventing a forest fire is greatly appreciated.

The Ministry of Natural Resources monitors things like current weather trends and amount of rain fall, they use this information to determine whether or not it is safe to start a fire outdoors. We will keep this information readily available to you for the safety of our residents.
